Brandy Lucas
Hi there! I spent a lot of time in school learning about what it is about therapy that is truly helpful for people. I find that identifying patterns and finding ways to break or change them can be very helpful. I often talk about "owning what is yours" and not taking on what is not yours to own in therapy. I have a masters degree in counseling and a Ph.D. in Marriage and Family Therapy, and I worked in the foster care and adoption field for over 10 years. I believe that therapy is a short-term experience for most people, and that my role is to help you identify what is currently not working in your life/relationship/current situation. For most clients, they are able to identify their area of need and start making progress toward their goals within about 6 sessions. I tend to focus on identifying patterns, setting boundaries, and trying new solutions in the therapy setting. I strive to create a very safe and comfortable therapy environment. I know it is very difficult to share such personal and intimate information, and I want clients to feel as safe as possible throughout this process. I encourage clients to set small goals at first and build upon those small successes, applying the change to more areas in their life.
