I have 30 years of counseling experience. I have worked in a variety of settings before opening my own counseling practice in 2003. My training is in Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT). CBT teaches that it is NOT the situation, which causes us to feel a certain way. Rather our thoughts and beliefs about the situation cause us to feel angry, sad, anxious or content. CBT is an effective treatment for both depression and anxiety, I strive to create a safe and caring environment both in my office and virtually. My counseling approach is to listen to you with respect and unconditional positive regard. I strive to learn as much as I can about who you are and your needs. We will then establish goals and learn effective coping skills to meet those goals. These coping skills will help you better manage your thoughts, feelings and behaviors and if practiced consistently will last a lifetime. After our sessions you will feel heard and understood. Throughout our sessions I will help you identify irrational beliefs, negative emotions and unhealthy behaviors. You will leave sessions with effective coping skills to put into practice. Every skill and technique I ask you to consider; I practice on a regular basis.
