Diane Obrien
I have practiced the art of counseling for 25 years and learn more about it every day. I have lived in a variety of places, including the Northeast, the Southeast, and now in the Southwest. I appreciate the beauty of our country and of every person I meet. My belief is that every person, regardless of age, ethnicity, or other identifying factors, is a person of worth and should be treated with dignity and respect. My background includes time spent as a school counselor and working with adolescents. As I have grown older, I find myself drawn to working with adults and seniors. I have been in private practice for over 20 years and have had the opportunity to serve a wide range of people and conditions. I have a background that includes counseling with members of the military and their families, as well as with Veterans. I have an affinity for working in the areas of grief and trauma, including PTSD. My approach to therapy is Integrative, and leans heavily into Humanistic Counseling. This includes Person-Centered Therapy and Existential Theory. However, I am able to Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, as it is needed and have been trained to use Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) for treatment of trauma and PTSD. My approach is infused with Mindfulness and holistic methods of healing. Clients can expect to take away a fresh approach to those problems that are causing issues in their lives. They will often be given "homework" and ideas to try between sessions. My goal is to help clients to take a more positive view of themselves and of their lives.
