Erin Chu
I have been a counselor since 2017. Prior to this, I worked 10 years in the field of geriatrics and social work, where I became skilled at working with struggles intrinsic to this group (i.e., dementia/caregiving stress, loneliness/depression, aging-related transitions, role exploration, etc.). I apply the same dimensions of wellness approach I did while working in this field to look at the entire person – socially, emotionally, physically, spiritually, intellectually, financially, and vocationally. In the process, I have also been able to use this approach when working with the depression and anxiety related to other life transitions of individuals aged 20 and beyond, such as: chronic pain and illness, women’s mental health, bipolar disorder, and toxic relationships (i.e., narcissistic abuse, codependency). I look at each person through a lens of mental wellness, as opposed to mental illness. We all have difficult times in our lives and these difficult times do not have to define us. By exploring and using our own values and strengths – as well as some humor and self-compassion – we can work through and learn from whatever life sends our way.
