Jeffrey Nigro
I received my undergraduate degree from Hunter College and my masters from Hunter College School of Social Work. I did two year-long internships that exposed me to a vast array of people & issues. My internships at The Anti-Violence project taught me how to work with the queer community and at The Postgradute Center for Mental Health I saw individual clients & developed my one-on-one therapy style. My first five years after graduation I worked in addictions & severely mentally ill populations. My focus is on the individual. I do not believe one-size-fits-all and I believe each person needs treatment and tools specifically for them. I believe the relationship between client and therapist is the cornerstone to helping people achieve their mental health goals. As a result, I pull from many different schools of psychology, depending on the their mental health issue and their environment. My approach can be completely organic or highly focused based on client needs. Insight into how and why adaptive coping skills developed and tools to address maladaptive coping skills. I help clients develop a new framework to look at their mental health issues, a different positive approach to help people grow the skills they have and develop new skills that will help them live a fuller more stable life. The focus is on insight into action. Without taking active actions to change, insight alone does not help people grow.
