Julie Madsen
I've been a psychotherapist for over thirty years and have worked with hundreds of people from a wide array of backgrounds. My experience has taught me that although there are many excellent therapeutic approaches, there is no one size fits all approach that can be effectively applied to every single person. For this reason, I am genuinely interested in getting to know the people I work with as individuals, to ensure that our work together feels both worthwhile and meaningful to them. I use a variety of therapeutic strategies that draw on my training in family systems, attachment theory, cognitive behavioral therapies, ADHD, mindfulness, mood and trauma treatment approaches. I have years of experience working as a mental health provider in school, home and clinic settings, with specialized experience working with women's issues, families in crisis, teens and military personnel. It's really hard to share painful feelings and experiences with anyone, including a psychotherapist. Often it takes both courage and time to truly open up to another person. With this in mind, as a provider, my goal is twofold. First, to help people develop a greater sense of personal well being by providing a safe place for them to simply feel heard and understood. Second, I offer proven strategies, skills, and ideas - specific things that can be done, to alleviate suffering between sessions.
