I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with more than 24 years of experience in behavioral health care working with children and adults. I have worked in both inpatient and outpatient settings, providing individual, family and group therapy through community mental health centers and in-home therapy. I have worked in other arenas, such as criminal detention, family court service provision, and an intensive outpatient program for dual diagnosis clients -those with a substance abuse and a type of mental health need. I hold a bachelor's degree from Furman University, a Master's degree from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, and earned a post-master's certificate in marriage and family therapy from the University of Louisville. I have expertise in the treatment of mood disorders, anxiety disorders, child/parenting issues and issues relating to divorce. I have a broad range of therapeutic knowledge of grief, trauma, mood stability, and mental illness symptomology and treatment. My approach is to build skills with others to meet their identified goals, improve the experience of themselves and life circumstances, while building supports and thought patterns that support a sense of confidence in managing life as effectively as possible. I use therapy models of cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, emotion focused therapy, solution focused, and trauma focused approaches to address challenging outcomes of negative experiences, as applicable. I have specialized expertise in addressing family, couples, and parenting dynamics in relationships. I have specific experience in working with families in which there is a foster care or adoptive component. My overall career experience has put me in functional roles as a minister, educator, social worker and counselor. I seek to use my experience and knowledge to assist others in living their best life and experience a sense of contentment.
