I'm Kathleen, and I am a mental health counselor and trained Somatic Experiencing Practitioner that helps people to heal trauma using a mix of talk therapy and embodiment practices. To heal trauma, you must acknowledge what happened AND learn how to manage your body's reactions to stress. I can show you how to manage your body's reactions to stress through the process of talk therapy. This way, you can avoid feeling chronically overwhelmed or triggered by stressors in your life. My approach to therapy is a best described as a combination of compassion, reassurance, and education. That's because I know that my clients need a committed and compassionate helper, not someone who is going to judge them. I will collaborate with you and reassure you throughout therapy. Over time, your self-criticism will transform into self-curiosity. You will see that you are not "the problem" like you once believed. Instead, you are an important part of the solution. I listen and affirm your feelings first. I then offer you supportive care as we process the feelings that emerge in therapy. Because I understand what it takes to truly heal, I will encourage you to witness and acknowledge the traumatic experience, ending the cycle of avoidance and denial once and for all. You will leave our sessions feeling seen and heard, and secure knowing that you have a mental health provider who is committed to taking care of you.
