Therapy is an investment in YOU: your emotional, your mental, your spiritual, your physical well-being. Asking for help can be really hard. You may not want people to think you aren't able, or competent, or you may feel "less than" if you ask for help. Asking for help takes courage, and honestly, it helps to not feel like in you are in it alone. If you are reading this bio, you're halfway there. My expertise is in treating individuals who have a mental health issue (depression, PTSD, bipolar disorder, etc.) AND a substance abuse issue. I have worked with this population for more than 20 years. I also have extensive experience working with individuals who have depression, anxiety, stress management, relationship issues or addiction issues. I have worked in community behavioral health for most of my career so if there are families who are looking for education on navigating the mental health system in New York, I am well versed in this area as well. I am a trauma informed therapist with training in Cognitive-Behavioral therapy techniques, Motivational Interviewing, and Certified in DBT. I also have completed the IMHATT certificate for OASAS and OMH in NYS. Additionally, I have worked with numerous professionals in the healthcare industry navigate trauma in the work environment. I feel a strong commitment to those serving others in hospital and healthcare settings. I work with adults over the age of 18. Therapy can help an individual, couple or family grow in the areas they choose. The therapeutic relationship is a key driver in this equation. I truly believe "fit" is important to a client feeling they are in a safe and trusting space. My approach is holistic, direct, and compassionate. Whatever your goals may be: relationships, work/life balance, stress management, anger management, symptom alleviation, harm reduction...my goal is to choose the best evidenced-based intervention for you. YOU are driving, I am holding the map (for now). Clients can expect to feel lighter after session; it is a place to share some of the load that is often difficult to carry. Sessions are a place to unpack some of that and figure out if there is a way to release it completely, or leave it for a while. They will leave with strategies to manage differently if that is their goal, and feeling supported and empowered.
