Laura Cooper
"Hello, my name is Laura Cooper. I'm a native Kentucky woman with 5+ years of experience in the field of mental health therapy and substance use counseling. I love working with people from all sorts of different backgrounds and cultures. If you have come across this profile, I'm glad you found me, and maybe you will be too. Sometimes in life we need someone to reach out to, someone to lean on and vent to, someone who will listen without judgment. I hope to be that person for you. I'm excited to meet you soon and work together to reach your therapy goals. If you are someone who is 18+ who has experienced trauma, anxiety, depression, relationship issues, grief, or symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), I can help! Let's work together to decrease or eliminate symptoms and find harmony! While I most enjoy a few key evidence-based practices, I am familiar with and implement a wide variety of methods such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Motivational Interviewing (MI). Here are two of my most implemented and successful approaches: Through my Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) and Trauma Informed Yoga (TIY) approach, I teach methods to arrive in the moment through mindfulness, connecting the mind and body to overcome symptoms of stress, anxiety, depression, and trauma. I have seen many clients achieve positive & calming outcomes with these combined methods. When we experience trauma and anxiety, we often lose touch with our body; I can help you get in touch with your body & breath through mindful thought reframing methods and slow & gentle (TIY) movements. While it may not feel like it now, you CAN feel safe and calm in your body again! I am honored to help clients learn techniques to feel safe in their bodies through the practice of MBCT and TIY. Let's work together to reset and redirect your nervous system to the rest response and restore resilience. Let's gently release that stored trauma from the body and find balance and peace in our mind/body connection. Additionally, my clients have seen numerous positive outcomes through Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) methods. I am honored to see clients grow and heal with this interesting and creative treatment method. EMDR is a leading trauma treatment modality that I have used in sessions for 3 years. In that time, I have seen healing in real time; some clients who begin therapy with a PTSD diagnosis will ultimately end therapy without that diagnosis because they trusted the process and committed to using EMDR and other supportive evidence-based practices. Also, EMDR can be used to help ease symptoms of stress, anxiety, and depression. If you think my approaches could help you, feel free to reach out today! A little about me: outside of sessions, I love to paint and go to art museums! I love live music and watching movies at drive-in theaters! I have a one-eyed rescue puppy named Sophie who is always winking at everyone! And, most importantly, I love to laugh and be silly with friends and family! " Thanks so much!
