Marlys Hersey
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and Licensed Addictions Counselor. I enjoy getting to know my clients and help them move towards their goals with clarity, humor, and grace. Prior to becoming a therapist, I've worked as a writer, photographer, massage therapist, editor, college writing instructor, park ranger, barista, plant caretaker, and server. I've lived in several parts of the U.S. I really enjoy traveling, hiking, hooping, bicycling, the natural world. Therapy is a collaborative effort; we are partners on this journey towards your preferred future. My job is to support you, to help you understand yourself better and learn skills you need to help you feel better, function better, connect better with others, and enjoy your life more. There is no one-size-fits-all approach in therapy. We will collaborate on a plan to help you rise to the challenges you face, make more sense to yourself, and create the most satisfying life possible. I strive to make each session valuable for you. Most sessions involve a combination of understanding yourself better, while also working towards new and different ways of moving through the world. I strive to be curious and affirming, as well as constructive and challenging. From our work together, you can expect to gain new insights, awareness, compassion for yourself and others as well as new skills, actions, plans to put into action.
