I spent five years working as a primary care nurse practitioner. During my time at a primary care clinic, I became acutely aware of the pressing need for mental health services, particularly as I witnessed the impact of depression and anxiety on patients' overall well-being. To enhance my ability to support my patients' mental health, I pursued additional training and became a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) In my view, effective mental health care involves encouraging patients to actively participate in shaping their own care strategy. It's crucial for healthcare providers to offer comprehensive information, and then collaborate closely with patients to develop a tailored plan of care. This partnership approach ensures that treatment aligns with the patient's needs, preferences, and goals, leading to more effective and sustainable mental health outcomes. I collaborate with my patients to develop a personalized care plan that meets their unique needs. Together, we establish clear expectations and tasks, allowing us to review and make any necessary adjustments to the plan during our next visit.
