Sonya Thomas
Hello, my name is Sonya. I have been a Licensed Professional Counselor since February 2020. I am licensed in the States of Texas and Oklahoma. I bring an array of experiences from private, non-profit, and inpatient settings. I have worked with a broad spectrum of children (starting at 8-years old), adolescents, adults, families, and couples. I graduated from Langston University with a Master of Education degree and earned a Masters degree in Human Relations from the University of Oklahoma. I specialize in assessing and treating depression, anxiety, behavioral concerns, parent-child resolution, trauma, ADHD, stress, grief, impulsivity, and relationship concerns. My therapeutic approach includes a variety of evidence-based practices that are solution-focused and trauma-informed. I am a strong advocate of Cognitive-Behavior Therapy (CBT), Person-Centered Therapy, Humanistic, and Holistic Therapy which are evidence-based modalities that help individuals gain greater insight into their thoughts, emotions, and unconscious patterns of behavior. By incorporating therapies, I help my clients improve their understanding while ultimately charting a path toward greater well-being and personal fulfillment. I help clients explore, process, and identify self-defeating thoughts and feelings and replace them with healthier more productive beliefs. Clients can expect to clarify goals to work toward. I facilitate a welcoming and nonjudgemental environment which leads to insight, growth, acceptance of self, and healing. I seek to build trusting and authentic relationships that empower positive change in clients.
