Sophia Padnos
Sophia Padnos is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker who studied English at Yale and Harvard before becoming a therapist. She specializes in anxiety and depression; relationship issues; parenting; family dynamics; and maternal mental health. Her practice is primarily psychodynamic, but makes use of other therapeutic modalities, including CBT and solution-focused therapy. She is open to clients who are interested in a deeper practice, including meeting more frequently than once a week. Sophia has found that while people coming into therapy know something is bothering them, they don’t always understand exactly what it is. They may identify a problem but not know why it’s such an issue, or what its true dimensions might be—much less how to resolve it. Sophia works to help her clients come to a better understanding of the things that are important to them; she offers an open, peaceful, receptive space where they can think things through without pressure or judgment. She draws on her training in psychodynamic psychotherapy and her previous studies in literature to help people understand the events that have shaped their lives: to note the telling detail, the unexpected turn, and the ways our interpretations (and misinterpretations!) shape our experience. Sophia has a special interest in questions of agency, autonomy and interdependence, especially in regard to family and relationships, and in decision-making for people at turning points in their lives. She is in ongoing training at the Boston Psychoanalytic Society and Institute. .
