Vickie Purdy
I graduated with an M.S. in Counseling and Educational Psychology from Texas A&M - Corpus Christi in 2000, and have been a Licensed Professional Counselor since July, 2003. I have worked as a counselor in a variety of settings (public schools, community counseling centers and clinics, and private practice. I am licensed in Texas and South Carolina. I treat anxiety, trauma, relationship issues, and grief/loss. I love working with adolescents, adults of all ages as individuals or couples. I work closely with my clients to find what works for them, using a variety of evidence-based strategies to help them navigate their challenges effectively. I am gentle and supportive, but am not afraid to challenge beliefs and behaviors that are hindering growth. I use CBT, ACT, EMDR, and mindfulness-based approaches, and often encourage practices and homework assignments between sessions to enhance progress. If clients want, we can use their faith, or expressive arts to help them heal. Clients often tell me they feel better after talking with me. I strive to be fully present, authentic and engaged when working with them. I provide a safe space for them to be honest, knowing I will not judge or disrespect them in any way. I will listen well, probe, model and teach skills that can help, and leave them with concrete action steps to help them continue to make progress toward their goals. I want them to not just feel better , but to actually be better .
