Adonai Shabazz
I specialize working with individuals and couples of color with maladaptive family dynamics, overcoming trauma, colorism, impacts of racism, uprooting cultural disparities, relationship challenges. I aim to teach positive communication and conflict resolution skills. I also aim use evidence based interventions such as Solution Focused and CBT with an Afrocentric worldview. My potential clients would be ready to explore the possibility that they may be contributing to their own problems. I value authenticity, being retable and a direct approach during sessions. My goal is to have my clients thinking about their choices and how the power of choosing something different can lead to the positive change. In this process, it may not feel good, your ego may be hurt, you may not like what I’m saying or pointing out, but I promise if you stick with the process you will come out stronger and empowered to move through your life the way you would like. My specialty revolves around validating and empathizing with experiences of men and women of color. Whether they are individually seeking change or as a couple my therapy style acknowledges experiences and seeing where the shift can happen. Sometimes it is the workplace environment, family dynamics, racism, etc. As those things exist and have real implications on our mind, body, and spirit, it’s important to understand why, how, and what we can do to empower ourselves to confront those things.
