Hello, I'm Alexis! I am a certified and trained DBT therapist with experience in helping individuals manage intense emotions and build healthier, more compassionate relationships with themselves and others. I received my Master's in Clinical Social work in 2020, and am certified and trained in Dialectical Behavior Therapy. This approach combines cognitive-behavioral techniques with mindfulness practices to foster emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness. As a DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy) therapist, my style is to integrate both the skills component of DBT with the cognitive-behavioral approach of CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy). I often tell people that DBT gives you the "now what?" as you explore and build a deeper understanding of yourself. I support my clients as they laugh, maybe scream, or even shed tears while indulging in the dialectical spectrum of emotional healing that comes with the therapy experience! What you will be able to take away from our sessions together is that - your emotions are always valid. Always! And while we come to accept these very valid emotions, there may be moments where we need to regulate the intensity of our emotions; or use skills that help us work against our ineffective behaviors; or challenge internal hatred and self-judgement; or find healthier ways to communicate. In DBT, these are the dialects of acceptance and change that exist at the same time.
