Barbara Beam
Each human being is wonderfully unique and amazing with their own set of individual strengths. Life often offers challenges that can take us away from enjoying our fully authentic selves; bringing on negative and anxious feelings that severely affect our mental health and quality of life. We can grow through such challenges by learning skills, strategies, and being open to new ways of thinking that can empower us to live our best life. I support people as they grow and heal through challenges by helping them build tools, listening with respect and compassion, and honoring their unique Self. I am a licensed professional counselor (LPC) in Georgia with over 10 years’ experience working with adults and children. I am currently working with adults in a private virtual therapy practice. I have worked as a therapist in the university and college setting, with adolescents in a mental health hospital and with military adults and children in a public school. My experience includes dealing with a variety of issues such as depression, anxiety, relationship difficulties, low self-esteem, grief, and life transitions. I have also helped people who have experienced domestic violence and emotional abuse to heal and find inner strength to move forward in their life. My counseling approach includes cognitive-behavioral therapy, teaching clients to think about their situation with a different perspective, empowering them to overcome challenges. I also utilize Mindfulness to help manage anxiety and depression as well as positive psychology and solution-focused therapy. I strive to provide an environment of support and encouragement for my clients. I am always inspired by people who have the courage and strength to seek something better for their lives. Change can be challenging but is always worth the work.
