Christopher Chaplin
I graduated from Boston University School of Social Work with my MSW in 2014. I've since worked in community mental health as a child & family therapist, with adults in a detention facility, and now with adults in my private practice. I've completed training in DBT, trauma-focused CBT, and motivational interviewing. My approach is also informed by my own experience with so-called mental illness. I believe clients succeed when they feel trusted, safe, and respected. My approach is relationship-based and trauma-informed, and I trust the client as the expert in their own life and experience. I integrate attachment theory, trauma-focused CBT, motivational interviewing, and mindfulness into my work. I've studied the work of Gabor Maté on trauma, ADHD, and addiction, and I am also beginning to integrate components of Critical Therapy and a psychoanalytic approach grounded in the works of Sylvia Dutchevici and Frantz Fanon into my approach. I strive to create a warm, nurturing, safe environment, where the client feels comfortable guiding the conversation. I want clients to come away from sessions feeling more empowered, more confident, more secure, though there are also times of great growth and insight development that include feelings of deep discomfort and doubt, and I view this as an equally important part of the therapeutic process.
