Darsha Clark
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the State of Virginia and Georgia. I have been practicing in the mental health field since 2002 since I obtained my master’s degree from the University of Dayton. I have honed my skills in a variety of settings, such as schools, hospitals, residential facilities, community programs, and in private practice. I enjoy listening and helping. I believe in the power of “talk therapy.” I once read a quote that says, “What a curious power words have.” This quote suggests that “talk therapy” works and I believe that wholeheartedly. I understand that “Hurt People, Hurt People,” so let’s begin the healing process. When you are hurting you might intentionally or unintentionally hurt people, and relationships with people are vital. I can help you develop healthy relationships and improve relationships with family, friends, and co-workers. I would love to help you learn and utilize skills that will be a tremendous help during troubling times. I have extensive experience working with adults and children to develop a wide range of skills, such as coping, communication, relaxation, and anger management skills, to name a few. Additionally, I can help families develop strategies to work with children diagnosed with various mental health diagnoses. Additionally, I can assist you with gaining insight about your actions, by processing your thoughts and feelings. All human beings at one time or another have reacted based on our thoughts and feelings, and the results have not been favorable. Let’s talk about how your thoughts, feelings, and actions are connected. By using a Cognitive Behavioral approach to therapy, I can help you become aware of inaccurate or negative thinking, which I often refer to as Cognitive Distortions. By doing this you will be able to view difficult situations in a different way and therefore respond and react more effectively. I also have a passion for Marriage and Family Therapies, as well as Couple’s Therapy and Premarital Counseling. Our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors inevitably affect our relationships. Individuals in families and marriages often operate from a place of comfort and familiarity, which can be detrimental. Allow me to help your marriage and family become what you desire. Couple’s Therapy is unique, and I can help you navigate the difficulties that tend to be specific to couples. Many times, individuals come to therapy in a reactive manner, but I approach Premarital Counseling in a proactive manner. Let’s create the foundation for a healthy marriage. I understand that a lot of us are busy with work, family, extracurricular activities, and many other obligations, so in many cases I also use Solution Focused Brief Therapy. Many people believe that therapy only consists of talking about problems, but in Solution Focused Brief Therapy I will work with you to identify positive resources and assist you with implementing concrete strategies to change your outlook and future!
