Dianne Knipp
Living with someone with a serious mental illness within my family generated empathy for others early in my life and catapulted me into learning psychology. Once I earned my bachelor’s degree, I knew I must move on to my masters so I may offer mental health services to others. During my educational endeavors, I worked on a crisis unit which assisted a variety of persons in need of wrap around mental health services. On the crisis unit I met people from a huge variety of incomes, problems and needs. I also worked with people choosing vocational rehabilitation while seeking employment. Once I began work as a licensed mental health clinician. I worked in community mental health for any mental health issue that came my way and then behavioral health in corrections. It was not long after that I became interested in offering telebehavioral health, mostly due to the culmination of experiences in the field. I have met so many people that struggles with transportation, steady jobs, interpersonal relationships and therefore there was this huge barrier to many people, especially in rural areas. When along came the possibility of using a mobile phone, and essentially anywhere someone may find privacy, a mental health professional could be found. There was no way I could stay away from online counseling.
