Donald Simmons
As both a Licensed Professional Counselor and Licensed Addiction Counselor I have made the commitment to help others as they face adversity so as to develop a loving and compassionate relationship with themselves. I bring a wealth of experience and specialized training in addictions and mental health to my practice and there is one common theme I have noticed throughout my career, which is our self-talk. We are our own worst enemies, and this wreaks havoc on our self-esteem. I earned my undergraduate degree from Fort Hays State University where I majored in Psychology with a minor in Philosophy. Building on this base, I earned my graduate degree, also from Fort Hays State University in Clinical Mental Health. My therapeutic approach is person centered, non-judgmental, and collaborative. I tailor my counseling to each individual client and will use several interventions in my practice so as to meet your needs. I am well versed in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Motivational Interviewing (MI). I also have a background utilizing Positive Psychology, Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), Trauma Systems Therapy (TST), and Crisis Intervention. I offer therapeutic support in areas including addictions, relapse prevention, trauma, PTSD, child abuse and neglect, grief, anxiety, depression, and anger management. I invite you to a different therapeutic experience where I will meet you where you are at and walk beside you as we make the journey to a healthier, happier you. By providing a safe and supportive environment, my goal is to provide a holistic and person-centered therapeutic experience where you become empowered to build resilience, achieve personal growth, and become better equipped to navigate life’s challenges with confidence.
