Dorene Fox
Greetings! No matter what your reason is for seeking counseling, there is no better way to find solutions for life's challenges, big or small, than to share them with an impartial ear. Years ago, I was introduced to the concept that I can only learn that much about myself, which I am willing to share with another person, who can objectively reflect back what was heard. Then the opportunity to learn if I had any skewed thinking that affected my life choices or interpretations was presented. The pursuit of deeper understanding and reflection began for me, and after more life experience, I set out to be that person for others. I find every person's challenges unique and endeavor to explore together whatever path is needed to find the solution that works for them. I create a validating and liberating atmosphere where clients feel comfortable, safe, heard, and accepted without judgment. My style is an eclectic, non-clinical, human approach, addressing a client's unique needs by being a caring, unbiased, reflective listener. I do use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and creatively employ other methods for issues outside the box. No cookie cutter approach here. I have a down-to-earth, engaging personality and even a sense of humor, when appropriate, that inspires even the most reserved clients to respond with ongoing encouragement. I also have a very diverse life and professional background, and incredible learning experiences with people from all walks of life. That means I have worked with people from many different ethnic and cultural backgrounds, in a variety of challenging life situations, always maintaining the standard of unconditional, positive regard. I can tackle a number of specific issues including career paths, goal setting, relationship, and family issues, conflict resolution, boundaries, trauma, and various mental and health diagnoses - even the questions that come up with ordinary everyday life. Also I am particularly adept with self-worth issues, negative self-talk (also known as the inner critic), and surviving and thriving beyond the effects of alcoholism/substance abuse on the family. Very often we live in life, what we learned growing up, and if we were given no information, we were and still are at the world's mercy for interpretation. There are all sorts of self-help out there but the deeper learning begins right here, with the right guide, who became a counselor to help you in your interpretation, as she had to help herself first. I would be honored to be that guide for you. I've done and continue to do my own work, as a continuous student of life, its ever-changing meaning, and interpretations. I uphold a great personal commitment to emphasis on honoring the values of conscience and conviction, tact and diplomacy, and dignity and grace, in all my interactions. No matter what the challenge, you are safe and respected here. Let's talk!
