Elizabeth Walters
Remember being little and wanting to grow up? To have your own life and make your own choices? But now it’s a bit more overwhelming than you thought it would be and maybe not nearly as much fun? Adulting is hard. And maybe you still feel like that little kid inside that doesn't have a clue. Perhaps you are struggling with symptoms of anxiety, depression, toxic stress, or trying to cope with immense grief and loss. Maybe you feel like you are carrying the bad habits and toxic traits you were taught when you were young into the rest of your life. It is sort of like detective work, we have to get to the root of the problem. Many of my clients come in for anxiety or depression but oftentimes realize we need to address a traumatic event. I believe in facing our traumas so they no longer have power over us today. I also believe in having hope, the power of perseverance, and self-forgiveness. I believe if you are showing up to give it your all in therapy, change happens. And that showing up every time is bravery to me and makes my job super exciting to get to see people create change in their lives. I have been working as a Licensed Professional Counselor for over twenty years. I am also a Board Certified Art Therapist and love to incorporate creative interventions in my approach. As a client you can choose if you want to use art therapy in our work together but it is not required. I approach therapy from a trauma-informed and relational lens and use an integrative approach often using cognitive behavioral, narrative and mindfulness-based interventions. I have a small private practice and I also work as a mental health provider in schools providing support for children with ADHD, ASD, trauma, anxiety and depression. In addition, I provide families with parenting skills support and community resources. I love working with women in varying life stages, from young adulthood to motherhood and beyond. I believe in the power of relationship and through building a trusting relationship with you we can start the hard work together. It is just the start to a new place where your healing begins and you can re-engage in your own life. In the end we all want to be heard. Are you ready to work through the barriers to find your authentic voice? To not be so hard on yourself through someone else's lens? If you think I would be a good fit for you as a therapist, please don't hesitate to make an appointment today. I look forward to working with you!
