Emily Mcdonald
Those that I work with have been impacted by various forms of adversity, loss, long-term stress, and trauma. To be a bit more specific, though, I particularly enjoy working with populations of folks who are in need of learning how to set boundaries for themselves, are curious to learn more about how experiences in their families of origin impact their present-day experiences, have experienced grief from the loss of a loved one, and are going through a variety of life transitions and stressors. My therapeutic approach includes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (understanding the connection between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors), Interpersonal, Relational, and Attachment-based (understanding the impact of early relationships and current social roles on your daily life), Strengths based (focusing on your innate resourcefulness and strengths, yes, we all have them!), Mindfulness based techniques (learning how to connect with the here-and-the-now), as well as trauma-informed approaches. Through the process of psychotherapy, I seek to create a genuine and secure bond and a warm space of respect, acceptance, and safety for you. In this environment, you can start the work of examining the ways that you have struggled in order to better understand your own experience and begin to promote healthy change in your daily life. Together, we will also put meaning to what has happened and to understand the ways your experiences have effected who you are and how you move through the world.
