Janet Lemoal
After graduating from Hunter College School of Social Work in 2008, I have held various roles. I've worked at HIV/AIDS clinics, a homeless shelter for LGBTQIA+ youth, and a homeless medical team where I continue to provide mental health and addiction services. I also have experience in community mental health, working with individuals living with schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, anxiety, and trauma. These experiences have shaped me into an open-minded and nonjudgmental therapist. I prioritize listening to and validating people's experiences. Therapy with me is person-centered and collaborative. I have an eclectic, sometimes irreverent approach to therapy while still relying on evidence-based treatments like DBT and CBT, which focus on developing coping and calming skills and learning to intervene in the thoughts that tell you not to be you. I can have hard conversations about sensitive subjects. In our first session, we will focus on getting to know each other. I am interested in learning about your story: What brings you to therapy? What matters to you? What are your goals? You are also welcome to ask me questions about my practice.
