Hello, I'm Kari. It is an honor and privilege to help people and to co-create a space for healing. I believe that mental health is an integral part of our overall well-being, and building a trustworthy, collaborative relationship where you feel empowered to lead a healthy life is invaluable. Today, we all face great uncertainty and stress, but these stressors don't have to control our lives. I love inspiring people to move beyond life's challenges and thrive with peace of mind and heart.
My journey to becoming a family therapist began in high school after a classmate's tragic suicide. This event solidified my belief that every person matters. I earned my bachelor's degree in psychology from the University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth, and pursued my master's degree in counseling psychology at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, completing it at St. John's University in Springfield, LA. I became a licensed marriage and family therapist in 1995 in Nevada.
Before becoming licensed, I volunteered for Clark County Suicide Prevention, worked as a case manager for a family shelter, and interned at a psychiatric hospital and a community counseling center serving the uninsured, HIV/AIDS, and LGBT communities. As a licensed therapist, I have worked in HMO practices, private practice, and served as a Crisis Management Consultant during 9/11, debriefing airline flight crews and their families.
In 2002, I moved to Colorado and took a break from my career, volunteering with children with autism in equine-assisted therapy programs and briefly working with homeless veterans. I also worked in public health as a regional emergency planner. For the past nine years, I have helped organizations with leadership and change management issues online.
The pandemic highlighted the numerous stressors we all face, prompting me to reactivate my license in Nevada and obtain a license in Colorado. There is no problem too big or small that we cannot work together to resolve.
As a therapist, I am trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Client-Centered Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Brief Solution-Focused Therapy, Play Therapy, Art Therapy, Couples Therapy, Family Therapy, Motivational Interviewing (MI), Grief & Loss Process, Crisis Management, Trauma-Informed Care, and Mindfulness practices.
As a lifelong learner, I continue to explore and practice Reiki with shelter animals, resilience, mindfulness techniques, meditation, spirituality, prayer, and the positive healing effects of art, music, animals, nature, and movement on our well-being.
It is my honor and privilege to be of help to all people. Let's work together to navigate life's challenges and find peace and fulfillment.
