I'm a 53 year old African-American male therapist. I have been clinically licensed since 2000 as both a clinical counselor and a supervising counselor. I have two master's degrees; the first is in community counseling, and the other is in criminal justice. I am pursuing my doctoral degree in counselor education at the University of Cincinnati.
Throughout my career, I've done a significant amount of work with at-risk youth, families, individuals coming home from prison, and people recovering from substance abuse. I also have worked with men court-ordered into domestic violence intervention programs. Several years ago, I began to focus on the treatment of trauma-related issues. I was very impressed with how yoga had positively impacted my capacity to manage stress and cope with life difficulties, so I began searching for ways to incorporate my practice as a yogi into the therapeutic work with my clients.
I'm a practitioner of EMDR therapy, polyvagal-informed practice, trauma, sensitive yoga, and IFS-informed therapy. I also incorporate aspects of MBCT and mindfulness practice into the therapeutic process. My research interests in my doctoral studies focus on mindfulness-based and yoga-based interventions to address trauma issues. In my personal life, I maintained a daily practice of yoga and meditation and focused on healthy eating and exercise. My hobbies include reading, hiking, and traveling. I've been married for 24 years and have four adult children.
