Larry Colby
Larry J. Colby is a Licensed Professional Counselor as well as a Licensed Secondary Education Teacher. Larry completed his Bachelor’s in Secondary Education with a dual major in Speech Communication and Psychology at Eastern Michigan University in 2003. He completed his Master’s in Mental Health Counseling at Walden University in 2013. He completed his counseling internship at a sexual abuse center and a private alternative school. Larry began his teaching career at a career center in Michigan, teaching English to struggling students. He has also taught high school AP English and ESOL in Puerto Rico and honors English, as well as inclusion classes, in Virginia. Larry has 8-years of experience working in residential settings, 5-years of experience with Intensive In-home Counseling, and 3-years of experience with out-patience counseling. Larry has provided staff training in verbal de-escalation, as well as presentations on play therapy and trauma informed care. Larry has training in Clinical Trauma Therapy (CCTPI), TF-CBT, DBT, EMDR, Sandtray, Child-Centered Play, and Theraplay. He has been trained as a co-parenting trainer and studied Orton-Gillingham multisensory learning as well as the Lindamood-Bell Language Learning theory. Larry’s mission statement is to use his interpersonal connections to allow others to build a base for discovering Health, Empowerment, Love, and Prosperity in their lives. He believes that healing requires us to set aside blame and focus on relationship building and problem solving.
