Laura Thompson
I began my mental health career by working for the United States Army in the field of Medical Research. During that time, I assisted in research for PTSD. After earning my Master’s Degree in Counselor Education from McDaniel College in Westminster, MD, I worked in the field of substance abuse providing therapy to individuals with dual-diagnoses. After working in the field of substance abuse, I moved to Florida and began my work with children in the foster care system. My therapeutic approach stems from many different theories. I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Play Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Triple P (Positive Parenting Practices) in my work with my clients. My approach begins by providing a safe and nurturing environment to listen without judgement and to listen so that you feel your voice is heard and valued. We all face hardships at some point in our lives and I aim to be a sounding board to empower you to be your own facilitator to your journey of healing and growth. My name is Laura Thompson and I hope to bring healing to those going through a difficult time in their life. I am here to help. I am here to provide a safe and nurturing environment to actively listen and collaboratively develop an approach together to achieve the peace and happiness you deserve.
