Letitia Powell
I have over 20 years of counseling experience with men, women, children, adolescents, families, and couples. I have worked with individuals who are dealing with depression, anxiety, relationship issues, women issues, and Identity concerns, to name a few. I am a graduate of Texas A&M University with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, and I have my Master of Arts in Counseling from Prairie View University. I also have my Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision from Capella University. I use an integrative approach to therapy, including cognitive behavioral therapy, person-centered therapy, and solution-focused therapy. CBT provides the flexibility to explore how we think, and it also allows us to examine how we act and our behavior patterns. CBT allows for the implementation of healthy coping skills that can assist with resolving a conflict or issue. Using the person-centered approach allows me to be empathic to my client's plight, and it allows me to encourage them to explore possible solutions based on their understanding and experiences. The Solution Focused approach allows us to work together, keeping the end in mind. During the session, our primary focus is on the solution and not the problem. We work toward eliciting positive emotions, behaviors, motivations, etc., to allow the client to achieve the desired goal/change.
