Mary Jane Gruba
I chose to become a therapist because I find people endlessly interesting and helping them figure out what makes them tick! Everyone deserves improved mental health and I enjoy helping adults meet their goals in functioning better emotionally, behaviorally and psychologically. Therapy is a profession that demands creativity, curiosity and passion and is rewarding, challenging and never boring. I am passionate about teaching mindfulness and new research based strategies which put a fresh twist on releasing difficult emotions, with a focus on the whole person. In 1984, I graduated from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln with a Master's Degree in Educational Psychology. With an Independent Mental Health Practitioner license ,I have worked with a wide age range and diverse population of clients. My first 20+ years was spend at a children's mental health clinic where we treated all family members individually, as families and in group therapy. We addressed issues of child maltreatment, ADHD, sexual abuse and all types of trauma. My last 10+ years were at a residential treatment center for substance use, mental health and homelessness. At this setting, we worked to address underlying mental health concerns that often lead to substance use disorders. Life is hard; we are all flawed individuals. Do you find yourself wondering how can you improve the quality of your daily life? Are you struggling with depression, anxiety, feeling stressed and overwhelmed? There are many ways I can help lessen these struggles. There is reason for hope, everyone can change and find ways to live a more rewarding life. The field of mental health is constantly evolving with new insights, techniques and strategies.
