Melanie Barefield
I am a counselor with 8 years of experience working with a range of clients who presented with learning disabilities, unresolved trauma, depression, and anxiety. I received Master's degree in Marriage and Family Therapy and became licensed as both a Professional Counselor and Marriage and Family Therapist. I have worked in different environments including residential treatment centers, in-home counseling, and also church-based and hospital settings. My approach to counseling is to help the person or family I am working with identify where he/she/they would like to be by first listening and then working collaboratively with the person or system to achieve the desired outcome. With individuals, I have worked mainly using techniques from CBT and Trauma-Focused CBT when indicated. Having been trained in family therapy, I use Family Systems Therapy approaches to help individuals learn more about the system and how it operates to help that person become aware of the impact the system is having and make changes where necessary. Those changes can come in the form of implementing healthy boundaries and/or making changes in interaction patterns either within the family system or in other relationships moving forward. The first step to getting to where you would like to be is taking the time to reach out for help. I would be honored to be a part of your healing journey by providing the support you need to make your tomorrow better than today!
