Mercedes Kennedy
I have a BA degree in Psychology from Caldwell College and two Master degrees: M.A. in Counseling Psychology and an Ed.M in Counseling Psychology from teachers College, Columbia University. I have experience working with adults and/or adolescents struggling with trauma, anxiety, depressed moods, bipolar disorders, and substance use disorders. I have worked with couples to overcome common communication conflicts, and I have worked with individuals struggling with grief and loss. My approach to therapy is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy because, this approach explores the relationship between a person's feelings, thoughts, and behaviors. This also includes focus on negative thoughts and replacing them with more healthier ones. I also use the psychodynamic approach and positive psychology. I work with clients to create an open and safe environment where thoughts and feelings can be shared without fear of judgment. There's nothing too weird/ taboo to talk about. It takes courage to seek out a more fulfilling and happier life and to take the first steps towards a change. I am here for support and guidance in your journey.
