Sylvia Mignon
I earned my BA from the University of Rhode Island, my MSW from Boston College, and my PhD from Northeastern University. In addition to my clinical work with mental health clients, abuse survivors, substance disorder clients, and correctional populations, I am Professor Emerita from the University of Massachusetts Boston. I am the author of 5 textbooks on substance abuse, substance abuse treatment, family violence, child welfare, and mental illness. My most recent book is titled Social Work and Mental Health: Evidence-based Policy and Practice (Springer Publishing, 2020). Therapy is an exploration of self-discovery through reflection on feelings, thoughts, behavior, and relationships with others. Along this path we seek to live a deeper and more fulfilling life. My therapy approach is holistic and eclectic, incorporating client centered-therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, solution-focused therapy, and motivational interviewing. The quality of the therapeutic relationship is the bedrock of the odyssey through therapy into change. I look forward to hearing from you and sharing in your journey.
