I became a social worker because I saw how stress and traumatic experiences can disrupt how we connect to each other and how we live our lives overall. I wanted to know how to help people move through that disruption and find healing. I've worked domestically and internationally with humanitarians, refugees, asylum seekers and survivors of torture, trafficking, and war. Along with my Masters Degree in Social Work, I also have Master's Degree in Global Affairs. I use a variety of approaches, based on the needs and interests of my clients. I view counseling as a partnership between the client and the practitioner. Although we cannot change the past, I know that we can help enable the future to be better if we can work together. I use tools such as EMDR, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, mindfulness tools and Motivational Interviewing. In our first session, I will want to get to know you in the context of all of your life experiences, as well as what the catalyst is for your decision to start counseling now. By the end of our first session, we will have a few goals laid out along with an idea of the changes you would like to see in your life, based on attaining these goals.
